Research Goals: The Allen Lab explores the interface between soft biomolecules and hard inorganic materials. M13 bacteriophage display is used to identify polypeptides that have some strong interaction with functional inorganic particles. The inorganic materials that we focus on are electrochemically or catalytically active materials like lithium ion battery electrode particles or perovskite nanomaterials. The goal is to use polypeptides to join together diverse materials and assemble hierarchical structures that have enhanced function.
