CHEM 405 – Inorganic Chemistry

This is a course that teaches fundamentals of inorganic chemistry from a physical understanding of bonding and reactivity. A focus is on group theory, molecular orbital theory, coordination chemistry and organometallics with related reactivity.

CHEM 405L – Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory

This is an advanced lab course. Each experiment is intended to expose students to a method or mechanism that they have never experienced in other undergraduate laboratories. This lab is a perfect mix of materials science (gold nanoparticles, quantum dots, and magnetic nanoparticles) and molecular compounds (organometallics, therapeutic agents, and bioinorganic molecules). In addition to these advanced laboratory techniques the course is taught with an entrepreneurial focus on innovation and idea making.

CHEM 490/684 – Spec Topics In Chemistry: Bio-inspired Materials

This course focuses on new and cutting edge research in bio and bio-inspired materials. There are three specific units including biomineralization, bio-inspired materials, and biomaterials. Students will learn methods for characterizing all of these materials including electron microscopy, X-ray methods, and physical characterization.
